Player-safe autumn tavern battle map with a square grid

Original player map: 24 × 18 squares, 70 pixels per square, 1680 × 1260 pixels. Assume one square equals 5 feet or 1.5 meters. No GM clues are printed on the player files.

For a VTT, set the scene grid to 24 × 18 and 70 pixels per square. For print, keep the source at full resolution and print at your chosen physical square size; a large map may need tiled pages.

Run this encounter

The festival steward Mara asks the party to find her missing ledger. A guest insists the harvest spirit has taken it; the innkeeper saw Mara quietly give it to a child for safekeeping. The child can be found by offering help with the feast rather than threatening anyone.

  • The outside doors on east and west make a chase possible without trapping guests.
  • Tables occupy two by roughly one and a half squares; treat them as difficult terrain to cross.
  • The fireplace in the southeastern room is a narrative hazard. Warn players before anyone is pushed near it.
GM-only clue and placement

The child hid the ledger beneath the southern table nearest the hearth. It records a forgotten promise: the village must share a portion of the harvest with the old orchard each year.
