A four-way trail crosses an open woodland glade. Trees, boulders, a fallen log, and a small pool create cover and routes without closing off the clearing.

Original player map: 30 × 20 squares, 70 pixels per square, 2100 × 1400 pixels. Assume one square equals 5 feet or 1.5 meters. No GM clues are printed on the player files.
For a VTT, set the scene grid to 30 × 20 and 70 pixels per square. For print, keep the source at full resolution and print at your chosen physical square size; a large map may need tiled pages.
Run this encounter
The orchard spirit offers the party a chance to return a stolen basket. A wary fox has taken it to the fallen log. Offer the fox food, approach carefully, or follow its tracks across the clearing; retrieving the basket is a way to earn the spirit’s trust.
- The crossing paths are two to four squares wide and accessible from all four map edges.
- Large tree canopies are terrain markers; decide with players whether trunks alone or full canopies block movement.
- The fallen log can be crossed slowly, used as cover, or simply described as a landmark.
GM-only clue and placement
The basket is tucked behind the log in the southwestern quadrant. The fox flees rather than attacks if frightened.
